How do I pronounce Yire's name?
Yire is pronounced with a hard G followed by the word day. It sounds like Gee-day.
What will the weather be like?
Bogota is very cool and temperate. Similar to San Francisco weather. Expect temperatures between 55° and 68° F.
Is Bogota Safe?
While there are places to the south that I would not recommend visiting, Bogota is very safe. Use common sense, as you should in any city you visit, but expect a level of comfort you would have in any major US city. In fact, the crime statistics for Bogota are much lower than many major US cities.
Is the wedding child friendly?
Absolutely! Please bring your little ones!
We can even provide a nanny for you during the wedding or for your entire stay. A qualified nanny costs $4.00 USD per hour. Feel free to cut loose while still being responsible! Just let us know and we can set everything up.
Do I need a visa to enter Colombia?
No! US passport holders are given a 90 day visa at entry and are actually allowed to stay in Colombia up to 180 days each calendar year! There is nothing needed to do beforehand, just land in Bogota, go through the “extranjero” line when you reach immigration and they will stamp your passport with a 90 day tourist visa.
Do I need to bring a power converter?
No! Colombia uses 110v power outlets that are the exact same as what is used in the US!
What is the local currency in Colombia?
The local currency is the Colombian Peso (COP). It has roughly a 4:1 relationship to the US Dollar, with minor fluctuations daily depending on the market. They come in increments of 1,000, but to make things easier, people may simply say 10 pesos rather than 10,000. For example, if you want to buy a coffee that costs 2,000 COP, the vendor may ask you for "dos pesos" which is about $0.50.
While you can exchange USD currency, I recommend withdrawing directly from an ATM. But check with your bank to determine potential fees. A decent bank should not charge you anything and should provide you with a better exchange rate than most in-person exchanges.
Are there any other places in Colombia I should visit?
Colombia is a very diverse country with many amazing places to visit! Let us know what you're looking for: culture, history, nature, beaches, mountains, etc. and we can provide suggestions on how to maximize your time here in Colombia.
Can I get medical/dental treatment in Bogota?
If you are in need of dental, medical, etc. services we can recommend high quality providers that will cost a fraction of what you would pay in the US. That $8,000 quote for dental implants you received? That will cost you $1,800 here. That dermatologist that charges you $650 for botox? It will be $200 here. Want to stock up on your GLP-1 medication? No problem. Add your normal treatments to your trip and it can pay for the cost of your flight and lodging. You can visit this amazing city and actually spend less than if you stayed home. Questions? Just ask!
